KAPEMNI SOUND ART 2022

Sound is a powerful medium to create art. It is a constant part of our human experience. It is simple and complex, like gravity. We move through it and participate. There is a flow.

Kapemni is a Lakota word that means “As it is Above; It is Below” (1) (2). This relationship of Sky (above), and Earth (below) is woven throughout every Indigenous culture, possibly throughout all human cultures.

This is a Soundscape Project, “Kapemni – Sounds of Earth & Sky”, that is about our human experience with sound – mind, body, heart, spirit – and how connecting with our sonic environment allows us to participate with the rhythms of the seasons we are a part of… sonic re-calibration through relationship to place.
